CRPF instructions for Manipur security

• CRPF has mandated the use of armoured vehicles for all troop movements in Manipur following recent ambushes on Assam Rifles.
• Security forces are instructed to avoid sudden or unplanned deployments to mitigate ambush risks.
• CoBRA battalions, specialized in anti-Maoist operations, have been inducted to assist in weapon recovery and bunker dismantling.
• CoBRA units have received pre-induction training in crowd management to handle local obstructions during operations.
• Current security deployment includes 20,000 CRPF personnel (200 companies), 10,000 BSF personnel (100 companies), and 26,000 personnel from the Assam Rifles and Indian Army.

• Ethnic violence in Manipur since May 3, 2023, has resulted in approximately 300 fatalities.
