Notes

• Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is launching an Intelligent Transport System (ITS) in August, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with an outlay of ₹530 crore.
• The ITS project consists of two main components: Traffic Information and Management System (TIMS) for traffic police and City Bus System (CBS) for the Metropolitan Transport Corporation.
• TIMS includes Adaptive Traffic Signal Control Systems (installed at 101 junctions), Red Light Violation Detection (RLVD), Speed Limit Violation Detection (SLVD), Traffic Incident Detection Systems (TIDS), and Variable Message Sign Boards.
• A centralized Traffic Information and Management Centre (TIMC) is under construction at GCTP headquarters, expected by August 2026.
• CBS components include Automatic Vehicle Location Systems in 3,500 buses, Passenger Information Systems at 616 stops, and Depot Management Systems across 32 depots.
• GCC is initiating a survey of out-of-school children in 418 schools in August to address educational gaps and social issues like poverty.
• The GCC Gender and Policy Lab is conducting psychological orientation for teachers to improve student emotional well-being and address behavioral concerns through positive reinforcement.
