• Automakers have raised private concerns regarding fuel contamination, specifically citing high levels of chloride and moisture in E20 samples.
• Industry testing involved over 250 fuel samples collected from retail outlets across 21 states and territories over a one-year period.
• High chloride contamination was reported in samples from 18 states.
• The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) initially submitted a complaint to the government regarding contamination but later withdrew it, citing a need for authentication of data.
• The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas maintains that rigorous testing by oil marketing companies has shown no cause for alarm, reporting only four cases of contamination.
• Consumer concerns include reports of reduced vehicle mileage and increased wear and tear since the mandatory transition to E20 on April 1.
