Delhi government heritage monument restoration scheme

The Delhi government has launched two new schemes for the conservation and development of local heritage monuments.
The initiative allows private firms, NGOs, trusts, institutions, and citizens to adopt 75 monuments for a period of five years.
Participants in the adoption scheme are designated as 'Monument Mitras'.
The government will provide grants-in-aid of up to ₹2 crore for specialized restoration and development work.
The scheme covers monuments under the jurisdiction of the Delhi Department of Archaeology, which are distinct from those managed by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
Objectives include improving visitor amenities, promoting cultural tourism, and encouraging public participation in heritage preservation.
Specific sites identified for the scheme include Bhuli Bhatiyari ka Mahal, Malcha Mahal, Quli Khan’s Tomb, Mutiny Memorial, Gumti of Shaikh Ali, Azimganj Sarai, and various Kos Minars.

The Delhi government has renamed the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation (SRDC) to Indraprastha Virasat Punarvikas Nigam (IVPN).
The objective of the renaming is to shift focus toward heritage conservation integrated with urban development.
Key areas identified for redevelopment include the 370-year-old walled city, specifically Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid, and Yamuna Bazar.
Proposed infrastructure improvements include enhanced parking facilities, public amenities, and the establishment of a tourist assistance centre.
The initiative aims to balance modern civic infrastructure upgrades with the preservation of the historical character of Old Delhi.
