Subsidies for rooftop solar installations

Pradhan Mantri – Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojna aims to install rooftop solar (RTS) in one crore households by March 2027.
The scheme has a total outlay of ₹75,000 crore.
Benefits include subsidised installations, bank loans, and simplified administrative processes.
Eligible households receive up to 300 units of free power per month.
Utility-Led Aggregation Model (ULA) allows States to shift from recurring free electricity subsidies to one-time capital expenditure for RTS installation.
States like U.P., A.P., and Bihar are adopting this model to reduce revenue losses from electricity subsidies.
Current limitations: Only grid-connected households with suitable rooftops are eligible; storage batteries are not subsidised.
As of August 13, 52 lakh households have installed RTS under the scheme, with two lakh installations completed under the ULA component.

Delhi Cabinet approved an amendment to the Delhi Solar Energy Policy, 2023.
Policy provides free rooftop solar systems up to 3 kW for consumers with average monthly consumption up to 400 units.
Target coverage: 2.3 lakh households.
Financial mechanism: Subsidy of ₹78,000 provided by the Centre and ₹78,000 by the Delhi government per system.
Capacity target: Addition of 500 MW of rooftop solar capacity by 2027.
