Cabinet Secretariat

The Cabinet Secretariat is an executive agency directly under the Prime Minister that provides administrative and secretarial support to the Union Cabinet and its committees.

Under Indian Polity & Governance

• It enforces the Government of India Transaction of Business Rules and Allocation of Business Rules to ensure smooth inter-ministerial coordination and policy consistency.
• Led by the Cabinet Secretary as the head of the permanent bureaucracy, it serves as the primary institutional bridge between the political executive and the civil services.
• It functions as the nodal authority for national crisis management and oversees key strategic administrative wings for inter-departmental dispute resolution.

UPSC evaluates the Cabinet Secretariat under GS Paper II, focusing on its administrative functions and its structural relationship with the Prime Minister's Office.
