• Tamil Nadu Chief Minister expected to move a resolution mandating Tamil Thai Vazhthu (State Song) be sung before the commencement of programmes in all educational institutions, universities, government offices, and public sector undertakings.
• The move follows a July 9 letter from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs requesting compliance with a January 28 directive to play the National Song (Vande Mataram) before the National Anthem at official events.
• Tamil Thai Vazhthu was first stipulated for official events by a Government Order on November 23, 1970.
• The State government officially recognized Tamil Thai Vazhthu as the State Song on December 12, 2021, mandating its rendition at the start of all official events.
