UPSC regularly evaluates COP summits in General Studies Paper III under environmental conservation and international treaties, as well as in Paper II regarding multilateral diplomacy. Questions generally ask candidates to critically analyze the balance between climate mitigation commitments and developmental imperatives for Global South nations like India. Candidates are expected to assess mechanisms like climate finance transfers, carbon trading architectures, and technology transfers from a governance and policy perspective.
