National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP)

The National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme under the Ministry of Rural Development that provides non-contributory monthly financial assistance to elderly citizens, widows, and persons with disabilities from households living below the poverty line.

• It operationalizes Directive Principles of State Policy, specifically Article 41, which mandates public assistance in cases of old age, sickness, and disablement.
• It serves as a core component of India's non-contributory social protection floor, utilizing Direct Benefit Transfer mechanisms to reach vulnerable demographics.
